HEARING LOOPS FOR SERVICE COUNTERS

This logo offers the universal symbol for hearing assistance. The “T” signifies an available “telecoil” compatible system.

When placed at entrances or service counters, the sign informs people that the venue is looped and therefore accessible to people with compatible hearing aids.

Hearing loops provide…

  • Easy, immediate and discreet communication access for people with hearing loss.

  • An easy, low-maintenance way for venues to provide communication access technology.
  • Hearing access that’s hearing-aid-compatible and universal.

  • A way for venues to comply with accessibility laws for communication access.
  • Thriving, inclusive, and hearing-friendly communities for everyone.

Make your customer’s experiences easier and more enjoyable at your business locations by removing accessibility barriers for the hard of hearing.

What is a Counter Hearing Loop?

For people with cochlear implants and hearing aids, background noise can be a problem and make it very difficult to communicate.

A counter loop is a particular type of hearing loop system that is installed at service counters to provide clear communication with hearing instrument wearers.

Service counter hearing loops amplify speech captured by a microphone and leave most of the background and ambient noise out, making them very effective in helping people with hearing loss converse freely.

Whether you’re welcoming people into your business, directing them to where they need to go, or answering questions, make sure the conversation is clear and easy.

In many settings, conversing across a reception desk or customer service counter can be challenging, especially if there is a lot of background noise or if the separation between the two people speaking is large or one of the people is soft spoken.

For those with hearing loss, these challenges can be even more difficult. Having to ask the person on the other side of the desk to repeat themselves again and again, or even giving up without fully understanding what is being said.

With the right types of hearing technology for reception desks and service counters, you can make these types of interactions easy and smooth, and make all of your facility’s spaces inclusive and accessible to everyone.

Make conversations easy and effective for anyone who engages with you and your staff, regardless of their hearing capability.

How do I use a Hearing Loop?

If your personal hearing device is equipped with a T-coil, simply set your device to the ‘T’ setting.

Depending on the device, this can be done by pushing a button, toggling a switch, or using a remote control.

Once activated, the Telecoil program can be accessed by pushing a button on the hearing device.

If you’re not sure if your hearing device has a T-coil, ask your hearing health care provider if your hearing instruments have a Telecoil or T-coil and how to turn them on. Talk to your hearing aid provider to find out if your instruments can have both a T, no background noise pick-up and an M+T program (blended microphone & T-coil program) for the best experience with your device.

Ask your Audiologist
